An investigation is under way into a cell phone tower accident that caused a man to fall more than 80 feet on Thursday morning.
According to Maynard Assistant Fire Chief Kevin Monaghan, the man who fell is in critical but stable condition.
Officials will not release his name due to the extent of his injuries and will only say that he is in his late twenties.
He was originally transported to St. Elizabeth Medical Center in Utica but has now has been transported out of the area to Strong Memorial Hospital in Rochester.
Officials say the man was working on the cell tower with other crew members, wearing full safety gear, when he fell more than 80 feet on to a platform, which was still 15 feet off of the ground.
The assistant fire chief says it took about 40 minutes to get the man off of the platform.
Monaghan said that the victim was alert and talking with the paramedics on scene Thursday.
It is unclear what company was working on the tower as the vehicle they were in was unmarked.
A Rig All crane was called in to assist in the investigation, but their company was not on the scene during the accident.
According to Monaghan, there is no investigation into the fall by the fire department or by police but there is an internal investigation being done by the company.
