An Idaho man was killed this morning and two others were injured when a trench collapsed on a construction site in Dickinson.

The 39-year-old man, whose name is being withheld until next of kin are notified, was working in a trench when it collapsed around 8:15 this morning trapping him in the dirt. Two other workers jump in the ditch to try and help the man, but it collapsed even more injuring them.

"The accident resulted from the collapse of a trench that was being excavated for infrastructure in a developing sub division," explained Dickinson Police Chief Dustin Dassinger.

It took crews more than two hours to dig the man out and he was pronounced dead at the scene. The cause of the cave in is still under investigation.

Work at the site has been stopped pending an investigation by the Dickinson Police Department, North Dakota Workforce Safety and OSHA.
