Police are hot on the trail of one suspect they believe might be connected to all eight of the stolen Bobcats.

Investigators say the suspect targets construction crews working to fix tornado damage on the city's north side.

Mark Ryan, of Bolander & Sons, had a Bobcat stolen and later recovered in north Minneapolis.

He tells 5 EYEWITNESS NEWS it is relatively easy to steal heavy equipment. Ryan says most manufacturers use master keys for their machines. That means a thief just needs the master key and simple knowledge of operating heavy equipment and he can simply drive a machine off a work site without anyone noticing.

A new Bobcat costs between forty and fifty-thousand dollars.

Police say if one suspect is involved in all eight of the stolen Bobcats, he has made off with over 300-thousand dollars worth of equipment.

So, far police have not found the suspect, but they say they are close to making an arrest.
