A 45-year-old Centerport woman died after she was struck by a truck while working as a flagger in a construction zone in West Lampeter Township, Lancaster County, police said Tuesday.

Cathleen J. Geisinger was pronounced dead at the scene Monday by Deputy Coroner Teresa Large after the 4 p.m. accident, police said. An autopsy is scheduled for today to determine the cause of death.

Geisinger worked for Wexcon Inc., a Mohrsville firm that has been installing water lines in the township for several months, investigators said.

Officer Thomas Murray said the accident happened as crews were cleaning up the site in the 1900 block of Willow Street Pike at the end of the work day, LancasterOnline reported Tuesday.

Murray said Geisinger was putting items in the back of a pickup truck when a fellow worker backed the vehicle over her.

Police said the truck was driven by Steven L. Riegel, 36, of Bethel.

"He (the driver) jumped in the truck and put it in reverse, not realizing she was back there," Murray told LancasterOnline. "He simply never saw her."

Police said they are continuing to investigate and have notified officials from the federal Occupational Safety and Health Administration of the accident.

Several employees who witnessed the accident were interviewed by police Monday night and police asked anyone with additional information to contact Murray.
