One person is dead after an industrial accident in York County. It happened around 11:40 a.m. along the first block of South Highland Avenue in West York.

West York Police Chief Justin Seibel says 20-year-old Patricio Munoz of New Jersey, was killed Friday in West York when a piece of construction equipment fell on top of him. it happened at the Carriage Works Redevelopment project. This is the site of the old Keystone Weaving Mill building.

Seibel says the victim was operating heavy machinery known as a "Pettibone lift" when it started to sway back and forth, possibly due to the wind, Seibel says.

The operator got out and tried to run away but unfortunately ran into the direct path of the machine, and it fell on top of him, killing him instantly. Police say he could have survived if he had stayed inside the cockpit of the heavy machinery because it has safety harnesses.

The construction company working at the site is FM Home Improvement based out of Danville, New Jersey.

The company's owner and OSHA are on their way to the scene to investigate the incident.
