Trawick Construction is celebrating one million safe work hours, and management couldn't be prouder of its employees.

Supervisor Allen Hutcheson said he's especially proud of his employees because they have taken such a dangerous job and kept it safe.

Trawick Construction, a communications construction business, has contracts with communication firms such as Windstream, putting them in direct contact with cable systems.

"There are some people that get injured or even worse, killed, doing this work," he said, "and we have employees that just respect that."

Hutcheson said the company holds meetings once a week to discuss safety, and every employee is required to attend. Hutcheson said they do that for a simple reason.

"We really value our employees," he said.

He also credits the safety inspectors who visit each job to make sure everything is secure.

Phillip Metcalf, safety director for Trawick Construction, said the credit still belongs to the workers.

"The proactive attitudes our employees have towards our safety program is the principal reason for us reaching the one-million-hour mark," he said.
