A construction worker was trapped after a boom lift tipped over in Minneapolis Tuesday morning, according to officials with the Metropolitan Council.

The accident happened around 11 a.m. when a forklift operator got trapped after a Beaupre JLG boom lift tipped over near a construction area at 15th Avenue South and 4th Street South.

Co-workers used a front-end loader to lift the boom off the trapped worker.

The worker was taken to Hennepin County Medical Center with an injury to his right leg. Laura Baenen, CCLRT communications Manager says the worker was alert and conscious when he was placed in the ambulance.

Baenen tells KARE 11 the worker is out of surgery as of 3:15 p.m. and added "We have no other information yet about the surgery."

The ambulance left the scene around 11:45 a.m.

The area is under construction as part of the Central Corridor light rail project. They are building a bridge where the train will go over Interstate 35W. The accident scene was just off of the bridge in a sandy area.

The injured worker is employed by Ames Construction.
