Three construction workers were rescued from a pit off Northern Avenue this afternoon after steel rebar fell on top of them.

Two of the victims were briefly pinned under 400 to 500 pounds of steel rebar, rescue officials tell the Herald. All three were taken to the hospital, all with arm and leg injuries.

Boston Fire Department spokesman Steve MacDonald said the injuries do not appear to be life threatening.

The accident scene is next to the federal courthouse on the waterfront.
