Police are looking for 2 suspects who were allegedly involved in destroying and ultimately stealing an ATM machine.
Early yesterday morning, shortly before 5 a.m., Sparks Police received a call of subjects destroying an automated teller machine at the Greater Nevada Credit Union, located at 1101 Los Altos Parkway.
Further information indicated that someone operating a backhoe was removing an ATM from the bank drive through, and that the construction equipment was being used to...
place the ATM in the back of a waiting pickup truck. The suspect vehicle carrying the ATM machine was last seen driving eastbound on Los Altos Parkway.
About three hours later, two hunters happened upon the suspects apparently trying to gain access to the ATM near the west end of Winnemucca Ranch road. The hunters drove back until they got an active cell phone signal, and the Sparks Police Department was notified.
Two officers responded and as they drove into the area, they saw a possible suspect vehicle driving away at a high rate of speed. That vehicle is described as a Chevy or Dodge flatbed truck, dark blue or green in color, with chrome rails on the flatbed portion of the truck. The rails are about 4-6" high. There was also a bar in the bed of the truck which protected the rear window of the truck. Finally, the truck has an aftermarket bumper which has brake lights shaped like hash marks, and there are two on either side of the bumper.
A possible second involved vehicle was in the area and is described as a green colored truck, possibly belonging to the Granite Construction Company.
At this time the Sparks Police Department is not aware of any Granite trucks being reported stolen. Both vehicles fled the area, and officers were not able to catch them due to a flat tire.
The suspects are described as white or Hispanic males, one wearing a red hooded sweatshirt, and the other wearing a bright orange hooded sweatshirt.
Officers were able to recover the ATM. It has not been determined if there is any cash loss.
