A 30-year-old Bonita Springs construction worker was killed in a forklift accident on Wednesday.

The Naples Police report that Christian Flores died during a delivery of roofing tiles to 630 Fountainhead Way in Park Shore.

Flores, an employee of J&A Loading of Bonita Springs, was walking between the moving forklift and the delivery truck parked in the roadway when he was run over.

It appears the cause of the accident was...

both faulty equipment — a broken mirror and reverse beeper — and a lack of experience and training on behalf of the forklift operator. OSHA is meeting with the owner of the company and detectives to discuss any further violations and/or civil penalties.

The Naples Police department is treating the incident as an accidental death and do not believe any charges will be filed against the operator of the forklift.

Gracie Sierra, the daughter of the owner of J&A Loading, said Thursday that Flores had been living with her family.

Flores had a wife, 4-year-old daughter and an infant son in Mexico, and came to the United States legally to work and raise money for his family.

“He was nice to me. I knew him and his wife,” Sierra said. “He was just trying to provide for his family.”
