An injured crane operator has been rescued after dangling 150 feet above a construction site in Northwest D.C. this morning.
Although the man was conscious and communicating with emergency crews during his rescue, he suffered life-threatening injuries to his legs and back, says D.C. Fire and EMS spokesman Pete Piringer.
A spokesman for the D.C. Fire Department says a technical rescue crew used ropes, rigging and baskets to reach the worker and lower him to the ground.
The accident occurred just before 7:30 a.m. There was no immediate word on how the worker became suspended.
The construction site is in the 2400 block of 14th Street, between Belmont and Chapin Streets in Northwest.
This is the second crane accident in two days.
Yesterday, a large construction crane flipped over onto the westbound lanes of Route 7 in Tysons Corner, blocking lanes during evening rush hour. No one was injured.
