A local contractor's employee was injured Saturday in a fall from a cherry picker machine, rescuers said.
The Hansen Brothers Enterprises worker, who has not yet been identified, fell about 20 feet onto the pavement on South Auburn Street in Grass Valley Saturday morning in an accident while demonstrating the proper use of the equipment.
At about 9:11 a.m., dispatchers sent responders from Grass Valley Fire, Nevada County Consolidated Fire, and the Grass Valley Police to the intersection of Race Street and South Auburn Street after a caller reported the man fell out of the cherry picker's bucket, which attaches to a crane to lift workers into the air to work on trees or utility poles, Cal Fire dispatchers said.

The machine was originally sitting atop a trailer, said one of the responders on the scene, Nevada County Consolidated Battalion Chief David Ray.
The man was showing a renter how to operate the machine when it tipped over the back of the trailer and struck the ground because the ramps which would usually allow it to roll to the ground were not down, Ray said.
The cherry picker struck the ground with such force that it threw the man from the machine onto the curb and subsequently the pavement, causing injuries to his shoulder blades, neck area, wrist and leg, Ray said.
Rescuers backboarded the man and loaded him onto a helicopter for treatment at Sutter Roseville Medical Center, Ray added.
